Kitchen display system (KDS)

What is a kitchen display? A KDS (Kitchen Display System) is a screen that replaces printed order tickets: it shows the cook what to prepare now, in order of arrival, and tells the floor the moment it is ready. In Sahl it runs on any tablet or phone, with no special hardware.

Each station sees only what is its own

You define the prep stations in your restaurant — grill, cold starters, bar, desserts — and route each item or item group to its station. One order with grilled meat and a juice splits by itself: the meat on the grill screen, the juice on the bar screen. The screen shows no prices and no bills; the kitchen sees the dish, its options and its note, nothing else.

Three states everyone understands

• New: just arrived and waiting.
• Preparing: the cook has started on it.
• Ready: shows at once for the waiter, and on the ready-numbers screen for takeaway and counter guests.

It runs when the internet does not

The kitchen display pairs with the main POS over local Wi‑Fi, not the internet, so a dropped line does not stop the kitchen. If you prefer paper, a kitchen printer follows the same routing, and the system warns you when it stops responding, with a reprint button.

Know how fast your kitchen is

Because every item carries the time it was sent and the time it was ready, the “kitchen performance” report gives the average prep time per station. You find the rush-hour bottleneck with numbers, not impressions.

Running in minutes

1. Install the Sahl app on the tablet.
2. Pair it with the main POS using the pairing code, and choose the “kitchen display” role and its station.
3. Hang it in the kitchen. Done.
