What's new in Sahl for restaurants: an option group library, and a price list per order type
Two features restaurant owners asked for most: options defined once instead of twenty times, and a takeaway price that differs from the table price without two items per dish. Both are live for every subscriber now.
In short: this week's update adds two things to the Sahl restaurant module that used to eat setup time: an option group library where you define "Size" and "Extras" once and apply them to items in one go, and a price list per order type that prices takeaway or delivery differently from dine in automatically. Nothing changes on cashier devices except the prices you choose, and both features work offline like the rest of the module.
1) The option group library
Twenty sandwiches with the same size and the same extras meant twenty rounds of data entry, and a price change on "large" meant twenty edits. Now you open Restaurant → Option group library and define the group once: the name, single or multiple choice, required or not, and its values with their price delta and optionally a stock component deducted on sale. Then you press "Apply to items" and pick a whole item group or specific items.
Items stay linked to the library: when you edit the group you press "Update linked items" and the change reaches all of them. For an exception on one item you detach it from the library and edit it alone. We also added an "Option groups" tab to the item form itself, so you pick groups while creating the item. Details in the option group library guide.
2) A price list per order type
Many restaurants sell takeaway below the table price, or add a margin on delivery, and the workaround was two items per dish or a manual edit on every order. Now under Restaurant setup → General there is a "Price list" field for each order type: create a "Takeaway" list under price lists (it is born with a copy of your current prices, so you edit only what differs) and choose it for takeaway. From then on the waiter device and the POS show the takeaway price when a takeaway order is opened, and the bill and invoice are computed with it.
Prices reach the devices with the cashier data, so it works offline. Dine-in orders and QR orders are not affected. See the price list per order type guide.
What the update needs from you
- Web panel: nothing, both features appeared in your account.
- Cashier app: update the app on the main POS and waiter devices so takeaway is priced with its list; older devices stay on the cashier list until updated.
- Existing options on your items stay as they are; the library is an addition, not a replacement.
How to start today
- Open Restaurant → Option group library and define "Size" and "Extras" with their values.
- Press "Apply to items", choose a whole item group, then open an item and check the "From library" badge.
- Create a "Takeaway" price list, edit the items whose price differs, and choose it under Restaurant setup → General.
- Open a takeaway order on the device after the settings sync and check the price.
All of the above is included in every plan with POS. Trying Sahl for the first time? Start from the restaurant system page.
Frequently asked questions
Did my existing item options change?
No. What you defined earlier on items stays as it is. The library is for defining new groups once; you can redefine old ones in it if you wish.
Do I need two items per dish if the takeaway price differs?
No. One item, and a takeaway price list chosen in restaurant setup; the device prices by order type automatically.
Do both features work on waiter devices offline?
Yes. Options and prices reach the devices in the sync and are read locally, like the rest of the cashier data.
What did not make it into this update?
An option price delta that differs by order type (the extra costs the same for every type), and automatic application of the library to new items in an item group; both are on the list.
