Option group library
For the restaurant where the same options repeat on many items: define them once, apply them anywhere.

What is an option group?
An option is what the waiter asks when taking the order: which size? which extras? how well done? In Sahl these questions are grouped into option groups on the item: each group has a name in Arabic, English and Hebrew, a selection type (single like size, or multiple like extras with a maximum), whether it is required, and its values with a price delta of zero or more each. A value can be linked to a component item and its quantity, so "extra cheese" deducts its quantity from stock on posting.
Groups appear on the waiter device, the POS and the QR menu when the item is chosen, and the selected values print on the kitchen ticket and the invoice.
The problem the library solves
Twenty sandwiches share the same size and the same extras. Before the library you defined "Size: small, medium, large" twenty times, and a price change on the large meant twenty edits. The option group library defines the group once and applies it to the items in one go, and the items stay linked to it until you decide otherwise.
Defining a group in the library
- Open Restaurant → Option group library and press "New group".
- Type the group name (for example "Size"), choose the selection type and whether it is required, and for multiple choice the maximum.
- Add values with the "Value" button: label and price delta, and a stock component with its quantity if you want a stock deduction.
- Save. The card shows a badge with the number of linked items.
Tip
Keep value names consistent across similar groups ("small / medium / large" always); the "Options" report in restaurant reports groups what guests chose by value name.
Applying the group to items
Three ways, pick the one that fits each case:
- From the library: "Apply to items" on the group card opens a dialog where you pick a whole item group (all "Sandwiches") or specific items, and the group is added to them in one go. An item that already has this group is skipped.
- From the item form: when creating or editing an item, an "Option groups" tab appears (with the restaurant feature). It shows the item's current groups and lets you pick library groups that are added after saving.
- From the item options screen: the "Add from library…" picker copies the group to the open item immediately.
However it was applied, the group on the item carries a "From library" badge and stays read only on the item options screen, because its content comes from the library.
Editing the library and updating items
Editing a group in the library does not change the items by itself, so an option price does not change on twenty items by accident. After saving, press "Update linked items" and the new values are copied to every item still linked to the group. A value you removed from the library is deactivated on the items, not deleted, because earlier orders may refer to it.
Devices pick up the change on the next settings sync, just like any edit to item options.
An exception for one item: detaching
The large size costs more on one item only? Open the item on the Item options screen and press "Detach from library to edit" on the group. It becomes the item's own group, you edit it freely, and library updates no longer reach it. The detach is saved with the Save button.
Deleting a group from the library
Deleting hides the group from the library and detaches every linked item, so their groups remain on the items as their own. No option disappears from any item because of a deletion in the library.
| Action | Effect on linked items |
|---|---|
| Edit the group in the library | Nothing until "Update linked items" |
| Update linked items | Values and settings are copied to every linked item; removed values are deactivated |
| Detach a group on an item | That item alone leaves the link |
| Delete the group from the library | All items are detached and keep their groups |
Items themselves are defined in Creating an item, and what guests actually chose is in Restaurant reports.
Frequently asked questions
Does the library need a special permission?
No. Editing and applying the library needs the same permission as editing items, and viewing it needs the view items permission.
I applied a group to an item group, then added a new item to it. Does it get the group automatically?
No. Add it from the "Option groups" tab in the item form, or run "Apply to items" on the item group again; items that already have the group are skipped.
Does the library affect the cashier or the kitchen display?
No. Devices read each item's options as before; the library is a web panel tool only, and devices keep working offline as usual.
