Getting started and setup

How long does it take to get Sahl running in my shop?

A new account works within minutes: company and tax data, a default cashbox and warehouse, then the items. Steps in Creating the account and Company setup.

Why do I not see quotations or orders in the menu?

Simple mode hides them. Enable them under Settings, then Features. See Features and simple mode.

Can I work in more than one currency?

Yes. One base currency plus additional currencies with dated exchange rates, and cashboxes in different currencies. See Currencies and rates.

Items and inventory

How do I add a weighed item from the scale?

Define the item with a weight unit and enable the scale barcode; the cashier scans the label and the weight or price is read. See Barcodes and units.

I sold an item with zero stock. Why did the system allow it?

Because the item allows a negative balance in its record or in the general setting. Turn it off to have the sale refused when stock runs out. See Stock balances.

How do I move goods between two warehouses?

With a stock transfer document; posting it takes the quantity out of the source and into the destination at its cost. See Transfers and adjustments.

Invoices and customers

What is the difference between a draft and a posted document?

A draft can be edited and deleted and has no effect. A posted document took its number, moved stock, receivables and the books, and cannot be edited, only cancelled by reversal. See Posting and cancelling.

How do I stop a customer buying on credit above a certain amount?

Set the credit limit and its policy in their record: block, or manager approval. See Credit limits.

A customer returned an item without an invoice. Is it accepted?

A return without an original invoice needs a dedicated permission and may need approval. See Sales returns.

Treasury

I received a cheque from a customer. What happens to their balance?

Their receivable is settled the moment the cheque is received, and the cheque is recorded "on hand" until you deposit and clear it. If it bounces, the receivable comes back. See Cheques.

How do I record rent or an electricity bill?

With a payment voucher whose purpose is "expense" and whose contra account is the expense account. See Receipt and payment vouchers.

Point of sale and shifts

Does the cashier work without internet?

Yes. They sell and print with a temporary number, and invoices upload when the connection returns. See How offline works.

I opened a shift without an opening float. What does the system record?

It takes the cashier's cashbox ledger balance at the moment of opening, so the expected cash at close matches the cashbox balance. See Opening the shift.

Where does a shift shortage go?

To the cashier's account under "Employee receivables" if a difference account is set on their user record, otherwise to "Cash differences". See Where the difference is posted.

How many cashier devices can I connect?

As many as the POS seats in your subscription and the "Maximum devices" setting allow. See Devices.

Why can the cashier not cancel an invoice or edit a price?

Because their role does not include it. Grant the permission in their record if you want. See Cashier permissions.

How do I print on a thermal printer?

The app prints over USB, Bluetooth and the network using print templates. See Printing.

Restaurant

Is the restaurant part of the point of sale?

It is a module enabled by its own feature, and its items appear inside the Point of sale menu: tables, waiter device, kitchen display, reservations, QR ordering. See Enabling the restaurant.

How do I split the bill between two guests at a table?

From the payment screen on the main POS. See Checkout, splitting and tips.

Reports and accounting

How much did I earn this month?

The income statement under Reports, then Financial statements. See Financial statements.

How do I give my accountant the VAT report?

Reports, then Tax report, then "Export Excel (both tables)".

Do I need to understand accounting entries?

No. Entries are written automatically. Anyone who wants the books enables Advanced accounting.

I got a rejection message I do not understand.

Look it up in System messages; every rejection means nothing changed.
