Branches
One shop means one branch. More than one shop means every invoice, cashbox and shift is attributed to its branch, and each branch's reports can be read alone.
On this page
From Home → Branches. A branch in Sahl is the unit of attribution: every document carries its branch and every entry carries its branch, so profit, sales and cash can be read per branch or for the whole company.
Creating a branch
- Press New branch.
- Code: short and permanent, such as
MAINorRAM. It becomes part of invoice numbers when "counter per branch" is chosen in numbering, so do not change it after the first invoice. - Name, address, phone: shown on this branch's printouts.
- Tax registration number (if different): leave empty to use the company's number.
- Sale currency: the currency proposed on this branch's invoices when neither the customer nor the user specifies one. A shop that sells in dollars puts USD here and keeps the base currency in shekels.
- Active: an inactive branch disappears from lists but its history remains.
The default branch
One branch carries the default flag and is used whenever no branch is specified: invoices from a cashier not limited to a branch, and documents created from quick create. Change it with Set as default on another branch.
Limiting a user to their branches
In the user form, scopes tab, you choose the branches the user works in. Someone limited to a branch does not see other branches' documents and cannot post on them, and panel reports are filtered for them automatically. An empty list means all branches. Details in User scopes.
Warehouse and cashbox follow the branch in practice
Sahl does not force a warehouse to belong to a branch, but the usual pattern is to limit a branch's users to its warehouse and cashboxes in the same scopes, completing the picture: a branch, its warehouse, its cashboxes, its staff.
Numbering per branch
In Settings → Document numbering you can enable "counter per branch" for invoices, giving each branch its own sequence: INV-26-RAM-000001 and INV-26-NAB-000001. Useful when an independent invoice register is required per branch. See Document numbering.
What happens in the books
Every entry line carries its branch. The trial balance and financial reports filter by branch, so you see each shop's profit alone. Posting accounts can also differ by branch (branch A sales on a different account from branch B) from Advanced accounting.
The branch in daily work
- Invoice: carries the branch of whoever created it, and prints the branch name, address and tax number if different.
- Shift: opens on the cashier's branch, so each shop's shifts appear on their own in the shifts screen.
- Reports: every report has a branch filter, and the dashboard shows the whole company to whoever holds all branches and only their shop to whoever is limited to one.
- Approvals: a user's amount limit applies on their branch, and the approver sees requests from their branches.
When you do not need more than one branch
Two warehouses in the same building are not two branches but two warehouses under one branch. Two cashiers in the same shop are not two branches but two cashboxes. A branch is for a different location with its own customers and invoices, or for a different tax number. Start with one branch and add the second the day you open the second shop; waiting costs nothing and adding is easy.
Frequently asked questions
Can a branch be deleted?
Not if documents exist on it; deactivate it instead. Its history stays in reports and it disappears from lists.
Does a cashier in branch one see branch two's shifts?
Not if limited to their branch in scopes. Reports, invoices and shifts are all filtered by the user's scope.
