What is Sahl?
Read this first to learn the three parts of the system and which part serves which person in your shop.
On this page
Sahl is one system with two faces: a web control panel run by the owner and the accountant, and a point-of-sale app the cashier uses on a phone, tablet or PC. Underneath both sits a single double-entry ledger, so every invoice, every receipt and every shift close becomes a journal entry without anyone typing one.
The three parts
1. The control panel (web)
You open it in a browser at your account address. It holds items and stock, customers and suppliers, sales and purchase invoices, treasury and cheques, users and permissions, and reports. Anything set up once and used daily lives here. Learn its menu in First login and the main menu.
2. The point-of-sale app
One app for Android, iOS and Windows. It downloads items and prices from your account, sells by barcode or search, accepts cash, card, cheque and credit sales, and prints to thermal printers. Most importantly, it keeps selling when the internet drops and uploads what it sold when the connection returns. Details in How offline selling works.
3. The ledger
You do not need to be an accountant to use it. The chart of accounts is created with your account, and every document you post generates its entry automatically. The accountant finds the trial balance, journal entries and statements ready; the owner sees the numbers in reports without opening a single entry.
Who is it for?
- Supermarkets, groceries and retail: barcodes, scale barcodes, promotions, several cashiers on several cash drawers.
- Restaurants and cafés: floor plan, waiter ordering device, kitchen display, QR ordering by the guest, bill splitting. See the Restaurant section.
- Wholesale and distribution: credit customers with limits, salesmen and commissions, several price lists, several branches and warehouses.
- The accountant: VAT, multiple currencies, fiscal years and periods, ready financial reports.
Three rules that govern everything
- A draft means nothing; posting means everything. While a document is a draft nothing has happened to stock or books. The moment you post it, it takes its number and affects everything at once, and it can no longer be edited, only cancelled.
- The number comes with posting. Drafts have no numbers, so the invoice register never has gaps.
- Posting succeeds completely or fails completely. If an error appears, nothing changed. Fix what it asks and retry without fear of duplicates.
Tip
These rules prevent the most common mistakes. They are explained with examples in Posting and cancelling.
How the parts connect
The cashier sells in the app. The invoice reaches the panel with its receipt, the item is deducted from the warehouse, and the cash is booked to the shift cashbox. When the cashier closes the shift, the counting difference is booked automatically. In the panel you see shifts, invoices and reports live, and the accountant sees the same entries in the ledger. The whole path is in A map of a normal working day.
What happens in the books
There is no separate "accounting entry" step. A sales invoice generates the sales and cost-of-goods entry, a receipt generates the cashbox and customer entry, and a shift close generates the cash difference entry. Entries can be read under Advanced accounting once enabled.
Next step
If you do not have an account yet, start with Creating your account. If you do, move on to First login and the main menu.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an accountant to use Sahl?
No. Entries are generated automatically from invoices, vouchers and shifts. An accountant benefits from the books if you have one, but an owner works from invoices and reports alone.
Does the cashier app work without internet?
Yes. It sells and prints locally, then uploads the invoices to your account with their final numbers when the connection returns.
Which devices does it run on?
The control panel runs in any modern browser; the app runs on Android, iOS and Windows.
