Features and simple mode

If you cannot find a screen in the menu it is probably behind one of these switches. A minute here saves a long search.

From Settings → Features. The screen has one big switch, Simple mode, and eight switches for advanced features below it. A new account starts with simple mode on and every feature off, so a small shop sees only what it needs.

How simple mode works

  • On: every advanced item disappears from the menu except those whose feature you enable here. "Enable what you need and its menu item appears immediately."
  • Off: every item is visible regardless of the switches, and the screen tells you so.

Hiding is in the menu only. Permissions remain the judge: someone without the quotations permission does not see them even when enabled. See Roles.

The basic menu with no features

In simple mode with every switch off, eight menus remain: Home, Items, Accounts, Sales, Purchasing, Documents, Reports, Settings. "Point of sale" is added for those whose subscription includes it, and "Advanced accounting" with its switch. See The main menu.

Subscription features are not here

Point of sale, restaurant, inventory and accounting as subscription modules follow your plan, not this screen. The switches here show and hide what you already own. See Plans and subscription and Enabling the point of sale.

Who can change them?

The feature-update permission, normally the account owner and manager. Others see the screen read-only with the notice "You do not have permission to edit features".

What happens in the books

Nothing. Turning off "Advanced accounting" hides the entries from view but does not stop them; every invoice keeps generating its entry. When your accountant arrives a year later, the books are complete from day one.

Recommendation by shop type

  • Grocery or supermarket: leave everything off. Price lists if you have a wholesale price.
  • Retail with many suppliers: goods receipts and purchase orders.
  • Wholesale and distribution: quotations, sales orders, salesmen, price lists.
  • Importer: purchase orders, goods receipts, landed costs.
  • With an accountant: advanced accounting.

Frequently asked questions

I enabled a feature and its menu item did not appear

Check the user's permission on that screen. The switch shows the item only to those who hold its permission.

Does changing features affect old documents?

No. Quotations you created stay saved even if you turn the feature off, and reappear when you turn it back on.
