Tables and areas
For the owner at setup time, and for the waiter in daily work: from drawing the floor map to closing the table.
On this page
Drawing the floor map
- From Point of sale, Restaurant setup, open the "Areas and tables" tab.
- Press "New area" and name it (hall, garden, first floor).
- Inside the area press "Add table" and set the table number, seats and shape: rectangle, round, or square.
- Drag the tables on the board to arrange them as in reality, and adjust width, height and rotation if you want. "Out of service" hides a table from waiters without deleting it.
- Press "Save layout".
The map can also be edited from the main POS in the app ("Edit table map"), but that needs an internet connection, and if the map was edited elsewhere at the same time, the newer version is loaded and you are asked to redo your change.
Warning
Deleting an area that has past sessions disables it instead of deleting it, to keep the history. A table with an active session cannot be deleted.
Table statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Available | Empty, a session can be opened on it. |
| Reserved | Has an upcoming reservation (see Reservations). |
| Occupied | Has an open session with orders or a bill. |
| Waiting for cleaning | Its bill was closed and the setting "Table after closing the bill" is "waiting for cleaning"; the waiter presses "Table ready" to make it available again. |
Daily work on the table
Opening the session
On the "Tables" screen of the POS or the ordering device, tap an available table, press "Open table" and enter the "Guest count". The session starts and the table becomes occupied. Each item can be tied to a seat to make splitting the bill easier later.
Adding orders
- Press "Add order", then search for the item or pick it from its group.
- If the item has options (size, extras), the selection dialog appears with the minimum and maximum for each group.
- Add a note for the kitchen if needed, then "Send to kitchen". A ticket is printed or displayed at the station responsible for the item's group.
A sent order tracks its status: preparing, ready, delivered. An item not yet sent can be cancelled freely; cancelling an item already sent to the kitchen needs a special permission and possibly a manager's PIN approval.
Transfer, merge and split
- Transfer table: moves the whole session to another available table.
- Merge tables: for a group seated at two tables, giving one bill.
- Split tables: the reverse of merging.
All need the session transfer permission (restaurant.sessions.transfer).
Preliminary bill and requesting the bill
"Print bill" prints for the customer what was ordered so far without closing. "Request bill" moves the session to the payment stage explained in Checkout and bill splitting.
Cancelling the session
"Cancel session" is for a table opened by mistake or a customer who left without ordering. It needs the cancel permission and leaves no accounting trace because no invoice was created yet.
Tip
The shift is opened and closed from the main POS only; invoices from ordering devices are received on its shift. If you see the warning "No open shift", open the shift on the main device first, otherwise it opens automatically with the cashier cashbox ledger balance. See Opening the shift.
Live view from the panel
Point of sale, Live view shows the owner from anywhere:
- Open bills: table, order type, guest count, opened at, and paid so far.
- Unposted bills: bills paid and printed that the system refused to post, for a reason such as a closed fiscal period or a disabled item. They are not lost: fix the cause, then press "Retry posting".
Why posting may be refused and how to handle it is explained in Pending and rejected.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open a table without a guest count?
The guest count is requested at opening because it feeds the tables report and splitting by seat, and it can be edited later.
The bill is closed but the table is still occupied?
If the setting is "waiting for cleaning", press "Table ready" on the device to make it available again. Change the setting to "available immediately" if you do not need this step.
Does opening a session create any accounting entry?
No. Entries are written only when the bill is closed and paid.
